Hortus Grimaldi
The family bought Hortus Grimaldi in 2021 to rescue a historic farm within easy walking distance from the Palazzo that could also provide it with fresh organic produce.
The farm produces olive oil, figs, apricots, peaches, pears, plums and herbs — and the ecosystem of friends’ farms bordering the land produce organic vegetables, eggs and meat.
The farm is composed of three buildings. The 18th century traditional house which once would have housed farm animals on the ground floor and the farming family above — now two authentically restored holiday apartments, each with two bedrooms and luxury bathroom.
The contemporary warehouse houses a stainless steel kitchen on the ground floor with dining table seating 16. Upstairs there is a games room with a window looking out to Giacomo Leopardi’s Recanati, a table tennis table and antique Poltrona Frau chairs, which doubles as a learning space seating 50.
The Porcellaia, once home to the farm pigs is currently used to store sustainable gardening equipment, it is newly connected to water, electricity and drainage to be converted into a one bedroom suite.
Rainwater from all three roofs is collected in a capacious new underground tank and used to water in summer. A full-size trampoline, Lego collection and two electric John Deere buggies provide children with hours of fun.
